NorthStar Electric Pressure Washer review

Northstar’s electric pressure washer is the priciest we tested, and it was among the best in our tests–and a recommended model, since it performed well and comes with no zero-degree nozzle, which we consider a safety risk. Particular to this model also is that it requires a 240V receptacle, which you’d likely need to have specially installed outdoors. Included are an industrial-class pump, a quick connect at both the wand and pump, and very sturdy construction.

We also liked the slightly bent spray shaft, which felt ergonomic to use. But there are compromises. You get just two nozzles: 25-degree and soap. There’s no built-in soap tank, just a hose to an outside container. The trigger safety must be manually set. The 112-pound unit is difficult to roll quickly on level ground. And unlike other electrics we’ve tested, the motors of which stop when you release the trigger, this model keeps going like a gas washer’s engine–so it can overheat should the safety-release valve fail.

North Star Pressure Washer Review

An In-Depth North Star Pressure Washer Review

Of all the pressure washers we have tested, the North Star pressure washer is one of the most expensive options. Yet, it’s definitely the best one so far. It performs really well and we love that it doesn’t have the 0-degree nozzle, which we believe is a good safety feature. This particular model of a pressure washer needs a 240-Voltage receptacle in order to work and has to be installed outdoors. There’s an industrial-grade pump installed in this washer and it comes with a quick-connect feature at the pump and wand. Above all, this pressure washer has a sturdy construction that’s guaranteed to withstand the daily wear and tear. But what we really love about this machine is that the spray shaft is slightly bent, which makes it very ergonomic to use.

However, there are also compromises that come with the Northstar electric pressure washer. First, it only has two nozzles – one for the soap and the other is a 25-degree nozzle. Secondly, it doesn’t come with a built-in tank for the soap. What it has is a hose that connects to an outside container where the soap can be placed. Furthermore, the trigger safety of this machine has to be set manually.

Unlike the other pressure washers where the motors will stop when the trigger is released, this particular model will continue to work. Thus, it has the tendency to overheat in the event that the safety release valve fails.

NorthStar Electric Pressure Washer Test Results

What Are Our Test Results?

The NorthStar Electric Cold Water Pressure Washer is part of the Pressure washer test program. Despite the compromises, we discovered a lot of great things about this pressure washer during our tests. We find that it’s very convenient to move around. Furthermore, it’s equipped with hose storage and the cord that it comes with can be wrapped and stored easily. You will also not have a hard time removing and using its wand.

Very easy to move and transport. Requires a special 240 volt outlet. Easy hose storage. Cord is very easy to wrap and store. Wand very easy to remove and use. Easy to use and read on-off switch.

In our lab tests, Pressure washer models like the NorthStar are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Cleaning: Versatility and efficiency in cleaning a range of surfaces. The better performers have multiple spray patterns that can cover various cleaning chores, from light, superficial cleaning to deep cleaning of concrete, decking, and other hard-to-clean surfaces.

Power: A combination of pressure, measured in pounds per square inch (psi), and flow, measured in gallons per minute (gpm). Higher pressure results in better cleaning of a given surface; coupled with a higher flow as well, you’ll get the job done the fastest.

Noise: A combination of measurements, based on dBA, reflecting the proximity of the operator to the pressure washer. While our Noise score averages measurements taken close by the machine and at the end of the hose’s typical reach, we strongly strongly recommend hearing protection for working close by a gas-powered model in particular.

Pros:

  • Capable of removing stains
  • Easy to move and store
  • Effective at cleaning different surfaces
  • High pressure (PSI)
  • Its controls are easy to operate
  • Powerful flow (GPM)

Cons:

  • Cleaning angle is average
  • Noisy when you are close to the machine
  • Trigger lock has to be manually set
Here’s how we rated the North Star Pressure Washer in different criteria:
  • Power: This pressure washer is very powerful. It has a higher psi and powerful flow that cleans off a surface. Thanks to its higher flow, this pressure washer can get your cleaning job done fast and easy.
  • Cleaning: We love that this pressure washer is very versatile and efficient in cleaning different kinds of surfaces. It comes with several spray patterns capable of performing different types of cleaning jobs, whether it’s a deep cleaning or light cleaning, and can work in different surfaces, whether it’s in concrete, decking, etc.
  • Noise: Although this pressure washer scored average in terms of the noise that it produces, we would strongly recommend for the user to wear hearing protection when working near this machine. This goes the same for all gas-powered models.

Conclusion

The Northstar power washer is a very powerful machine and we would strongly recommend it in cleaning different kinds of surfaces, including those with stains and greases. We love that it has a much longer lifespan compared to other pressure washers of the same caliber. Plus, the pump and the engine are strategically placed in a way that it will extend the washer’s life, allowing you to accomplish a lot of cleaning tasks during the entire lifetime of the machine.

I have been in th industrial maintenance business for 30 years, and have a lot of experience with pressure washers from home owner grade to industrial 480 volt industrial steam/hot water units. I purchased this pressure washer for my home and have found it to a great machine and a good value. I would rate it as light commercial for application. I set it up in my garage with a hose reel and connect to hot and cold water lines. All I need to do is pulls out the hose, turn a valve and hit a switch and I am cleaning what ever needs it. I liked it so much I purchased the same machine for my vacation house. I do prefer auto start stop and wish NT offfered a modification kit.

+ PROS: Easy to use and does a great job!

I use the washer to wash my cars and motorcycles.
Unlike my gas powered pressure washer where I have to drag out the washer, fill it with gas, hook up the hose, connect to water supply, etc. with this electric washer I keep it plugged in and connected to the water supply. I open the water supply valve, drag the wand and hose out the garage door, flip the switch on the washer and I am ready to go.
Also, my wife used to complain about the noise the gas powered washer made, this electric unit is quiet by comparison.
With the Leeson motor and Cat pump, I expect to get many years of service from this washer.

+ PROS: Quiet and easy to use
